On arrival at Cape Town International Airport, you will be met by your guide, who will transfer you to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Your hotel is located on the edge of the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. The Waterfront is simultaneously Cape Town’s working harbour, and a destination that offers hundreds of shops and restaurants on the edge of the water.
After breakfast this morning, your guide will pick you up at the hotel, and you will depart on a half day tour of Cape Town. The tour visits the Castle of Good Hope and the Company’s Garden, before going into the Bo-Kaap with its colourful homes against the hillside. Then, if the weather allows, you will be taken to the foot of Table Mountain and travel by cable car to the top. The views are indescribable, and the unique fynbos vegetation does not grow anywhere else on earth except in the areas around Cape Town. Drop-off at your hotel around lunch time. In the afternoon you will stroll to the kiosk of the helicopter company in the Waterfront, from where you will be taken to the helipad. The helicopter will take you on a breath-taking 12-minute flight over the scenic highlights of Cape Town. A pre-recorded DVD of the route is included.
This morning after breakfast, your guide will pick you up at the hotel, and you will depart on a full day tour of the Cape Peninsula. You will drive south along the Atlantic coastline, through Camps Bay to Hout Bay. In the fishing harbour of Hout Bay you will board boat which will take you to Seal Island, named after the thousands of seals that live here. From Hout Bay you will travel over the beautiful Chapman’s Peak Drive (road conditions permitting) to the Cape of Good Hope National Park. After visiting Cape Point, you will continue along the False Bay coast to Simon’s Town and its colony of African penguins at Boulders Beach. Arrival at your hotel in the late afternoon.
After breakfast this morning, a representative from Aquila will pick you up at the hotel and you will depart to Aquila Private Game Reserve. Here you will enjoy a 2-3 hour safari on an open 4×4 vehicle, which is followed by a buffet lunch and some leisure time. During leisure time, guests can make use of the optional extra activities such as spa treatments, quad bike adventures and horseback experiences.
On the menu today are some of the most photogenic landscapes in South Africa: the Winelands. Your guide will pick you up after breakfast and you will depart on a full day tour of discovery amongst the oldest vineyards in the southern hemisphere. The tour includes wine tastings at 2 of the area’s wine estates (one of our favourites is Boschendal, which dates from the late 17th century). You will also visit Stellenbosch, the second oldest colonial town in South Africa. And Franschhoek is also on the agenda, which is the perfect place for lunch because some of South Africa’s best restaurants are situated in the village (lunch is not included in the tour but your guide will recommend a restaurant that suits your requirements). Overnight in Cape Town.
Situated just 140 kilometres from Cape Town and built between the beautiful shores and cliffs of Walker Bay, Hermanus has grown from a small seaside resort town to become possibly the best-known place for whale watching in the world. This town is also famed for its natural scenic beauty, long stretches of pristine beaches and excellent variety of restaurants, cafes and bars. Check out after breakfast. Your guide will pick you up at the hotel for the transfer to Hermanus. You will travel along the scenic Clarence Drive which hugs the coastline from Gordon’s Bay to Betty’s Bay, offering plenty of opportunity to stop and admire the views over False Bay towards the mountains of the Peninsula. Your hotel in Hermanus overlooks Walker Bay, which is famous in whale season (June – December) for its great sightings of southern right whales that migrate from Antarctica to the warm waters off the coastline of South Africa. Hermanus is known as one of the best places in the world for whale watching, and it’s easy to spot these majestic sea creatures from land or during a boat cruise. Afternoon at leisure.
This morning, your guide will pick you up for the 45 minute drive to Gansbaai. Here you will board a boat of Dyer Island Cruises for a 2-3 hour Marine Big 5 cruise. Even outside whale season, the ocean is home to other whale species like Bride’s whales, as well as sharks, seals and an array of seabirds.
Johannesburg is one of Africa’s biggest and most vibrant cities. It is the economic capital of Africa and the gateway to Southern Africa. After breakfast you will check out, and your guide will pick you up at the hotel for the transfer to Cape Town International Airport. Here you will catch a scheduled flight to Johannesburg. On arrival in Johannesburg, your new guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Ideally situated on Nelson Mandela Square in the Sandton neighbourhood, the Michelangelo Hotel will be your base in Johannesburg. The rest of the day is at leisure. Nelson Mandela Square and the adjacent Sandton City mall offer a huge selection of restaurants, coffee shops and cafés.
Today you will enjoy a full day tour of Soweto and Johannesburg. Soweto is the largest and best-know township in South Africa. On this interactive tour you will meet some of the locals, and learn about the challenges and triumphs of their lives. Lunch is included in the tour, as well as a visit to the Hector Pietersen Museum which tells the story of the 1976 student uprising and its place in the struggle against apartheid. In the afternoon, you will get a glimpse of the struggles and triumphs of Johannesburg, South Africa’s largest and most cosmopolitan city. Your guide will show you some of the vibrant neighbourhoods and inspiring projects that contribute to the renaissance of Johannesburg. Maboneng, which means Place of Light in the Sotho language, is an inner-city area that was until recently filled with dilapidated industrial buildings. Since around 2010, it has morphed into a centre of Johannesburg’s creative energy. Not far from Maboneng is Lorentzville, another inner-city neighbourhood which now houses Victoria Yards. This project strives to encourage commercial enterprise that goes hand in hand with social development. There’s an urban agriculture project which creates jobs by growing fruit and vegetables that are sold to the public, artisan studios which nurture the skills of young craftspeople, and arts galleries that encourage the talent of undiscovered artists.
After breakfast you will check out, and your guide will pick you up at the hotel for the transfer to O.R Tambo International airport to board your flight back home.
